Criminal legal aid
Criminal legal aid is available for people charged with a criminal offence.
Grants of criminal legal aid are generally to people who could face a prison sentence of 6 months or more.
Family legal aid
Family legal aid is available for private disputes and non-criminal problems that may go to court and involve family matters such as relationship separation, division of assets, and custody or access issues.
Civil legal aid
Civil legal aid is available for private disputes and non-criminal problems that may go to court. Civil action is normally a case taken by an individual against another person or an organisation.
